Before me and Becka begin to plan ideas for a possible music video we will first need to select a song and in order for us to pick a song we will then need to research different genres of music that will be available for us to choose from. After looking online we have found many different types of genre that we can choose from. Below we have created a mind map which shows an exploration of music genres and possible musicians that we can choose for our coursework.
As you can see from this mindmap, me and Becka have looked at a wide range of genres and musicians. We found it fairly easy to find musicians using our own knowledge, however, when looking at musicians related to the genres punk and garage we had to do our own research to found a couple of musicians, we hadn’t heard of any other musicians other than Iggy Pop for Punk and Ms. Dynamite and Craig David for Garage music. When we came to the genres, Pop, Rock and House we found that we knew a lot of different musicians for this genre. As both me and Becka like these sorts of genres these may be possible genres that we consider for our music video. We also both feel that we have a good general knowledge on these styles of music and this will help greatly as we will both know how to set out a possible music video as we will have a good knowledge on music videos of this genre. We have also decided that we will not choose the genres Punk and Garage as we felt that we didn’t have much of a general knowledge on these artists or the style of music.
This mind map has helped greatly with our planning stages as me and Becka now both know what genre we are most likely to go with. However, we will also have to do extra research into each of these genres as then we will know which genre of music to go with for sure, as this research is not enough to decide on a final genre for our music video.
